In particular, while each Mac emulator has some pretty good information available to troubleshoot it (if you’ve got the time to find it), I’ve never found a really satisfying overview, that is, an explanation of why you might choose X program over Y. That’s also not something that to hold against them in the least, mind you – when you are a relatively tiny, all-volunteer group of programmers keeping the software going to maintain decades’ worth of content from a major computing company that’s notoriously litigious about intellectual property….some of the details are going to fall through the cracks, especially when you’re trying to cram them into a forum post, not specifically addressing the archival/information science community, etc.

The tinkering enthusiast communities that come up with emulators for Mac systems, in particular, are not always the clearest about self-documentation (the free-level versions of PC-emulating enterprise software like VirtualBox or VMWare are, unsurprisingly, more self-describing). Since DOS is a single task OS, it feels much more like I'm using a "real" Mac OS So far this is my favorite 68K mac emulator simply because I can run it under pure DOS. Marathon - Runs fine, mouse also works better still sucks

Warcraft - Runs full speed, but CD audio is not working Blackthorne - Does not work, same error 14 I get from Basilisk II Prince of Persia 2- Runs full speed and almost with functional music (it's a bit slow at some points, but still a little better than on Basilisk II)

I used Dosbox to install the OS and copy the games, then copied the image to my retro machine.
Tried running on an retro computer with MS-DOS, it's the easiest one to setup since you don't need any Mac OS installation and ROM. The other games didn't work.Blackthorne hangs up while loading and the other games crash to DOS Prince of Persia 1 - Runs full speed and with sound
It runs pretty well in general, but it was kind of a pain to set up.Įxecutor (not exactly an emulator but I had to try it): Marathon - Runs surprisingly well, but mouse twitches a lot (may be the KVM switch I use) Warcraft - Couldn't try since I was too lazy to make CD-ROM work Prince of Persia 2 - Runs full speed, but music is slow Prince of Persia 1 - Runs full speed with music and sound I tried some emulators myself, here are the results:
